Companies hiring elderly employees in Slovenia are entitled to receive a government incentive of EUR 11,000, as a part of a national program designed to sustain employment in this country. The program, Encouraging Employment of the Elderly – Active until Retirement, has a total fund of EUR 14 million, out of which EUR 11.2 million will be provided by the European Social Fund, while the rest will be offered by the Slovenian government. Maribor and the Drava region were selected among the top ten European regions for investment purposes, under the FDi’s European Cities and Regions of the Future study. The Slovenian regions were included in this study as small European regions that are able to attract foreign direct investments.
